londonprintstudio Comics Collective (that's me, Abraham Christie, Jade Sarson, Merlin Evans, Shamisa Devorey and Susan Yan Mach) were at COMIKET on 12th November, promoting the free comics workshops we're running for 16-20-year-olds over the next few months.

Our mentor, Karrie Fransman, was there too and totally did a live drawing performance with a big screen up on stage. We also got to meet some of our predecessors from last year's comic internship - William Goldsmith, Joe Kelly and Isabel Greenberg...

(Thank-you to Susan and Sarah McIntyre for the photos)...

If you're 16-20 years old and would like to come to one of our FREE comics workshops, please get in touch with the londonprintstudio Comics Collective. Details are on our blog or visit the londonprintstudio website. The workshops are at various dates until March 2012 and are totally FREE - you may also have the chance to be published in our comics anthology and exhibition in the spring of 2012! We look forward to seeing what you can do!

P.S. To friends here on LiveJournal and other comics/cartoony folk - please repost this message and spread the word to places you think people who might be interested might see it! It's for a good cause - namely spreading the love of comics-making to young people - and is a not-for-profit project run by volunteers & funded by the John Lyon's Charity.

Thanks.

-Lily

I convinced my parents to shelter a grounded baby pigeon we found in our flowerbed, moving it to the balcony just outside their bedroom window.

This is their anniversary card.Collapse )

We later spotted the mother feeding it on the balcony and it's since learned to fly. It's the second time I've found a grounded pigeon chick around here, the last one was a few years ago with a hurt wing, we took it to the vet's. You wouldn't tell they were pigeons to look at them, the babies are fantastically ugly birds - the yellow down looks like it's been stuck on for a joke. I had no idea what it was until the vet told us.

On a different subject, a belated thanks to naomiii  for being so lovely. More on that later!

Preview sketches for my submission to the Inspired Comics Sci-Fi anthology...Gem will recognise this stuff from a project we worked on in Brussels. I wanted to complete that comic and translate it, although I'm pushing it a little with the theme here but Sammy & Sarah kindly said they would accept "Steampunk" as Sci-Fi (thanks, ladies!) :)
Since I began this for a previous project, it's worth mentioning that the brief I was working under required "animal characters". My apologies.Collapse )
Inspired are the comics collective a couple of my friends participate in/organise, and they totally let me tag along to a couple of comics expos with their table this year(!) They will be at Thought Bubble Festival in Leeds this November -- check out the Inspired blog and online store  - there are comics for sale!
